Happy Halloween 2014!

Ella's first Halloween and Jack's first official trick-or-treating Halloween was SPOOKTACULAR! :) It was a very busy weekend full of candy, costumes, and grandparent love! Below is a picture of our skeleton or "skey!" as Jack calls him. At first, Jack was very nervous around him, but with time and after a few high fives, he and Mr. Skeleton became very close.

I really enjoyed dressing the kids up in Halloween attire all October.

We were a little late carving our pumpkins this year, but thankfully so, since the warm weather turned all the earlier carved ones into a smelly lumps of grey fuzz. We managed to get ours carved the night before.

The kids were eager to help...well, at first.

Ella liked smacking on the pumpkin, until she got a load of what was inside. Then, she was over it pretty quickly and went to bed before all the innards were even cleaned out. Can't say that I blame her.

Jack didn't care for the guts either. He was far more amused with designing the faces for the pumpkins.

Daddy did all the dirty work. What a guy!

In keeping with last year's design, we decided to decorate Ella's pumpkin just like her. We gave it a bow and bottom tooth. Of course, the other front bottom tooth came in two days later.

Jack's pumpkin had to be none other than "TA!" or Thomas. Justin did a great job!

Jack admiring the bow...

Weeks before Halloween, I introduced Justin to Pintrest. I thought it would be cool if we could make Jack's costume. Of course, you know what it HAD to be...or WHO, I should say.

Taking shape...can you guess??

Thomas! We painted him with spray paint and put the lines on with colored electrical tape. Justin did the vast majority of the work and it looked great. We wished we had just a little more time to put the buffers and a light on the front, but ran out of time. It turned out great though! We got so many comments on it! Definitely took home the award for most creative...and best dad ever! :)

Jack loved it, the first time he put it on, he waddled across the yard, heading toward a tree, saying "Uh-OH!" UH-OH!!" Haha. He likes to fashion these high drama, near miss moments for himself.

Below, he's enjoying the rewards of his very first trick-or-treat experience. Justin has it on camera. It was great! He walked up to the door, wasn't sure what he was doing, but then when he said, "tweet!" and she gave him a sucker, he was sold. He tried to go back up to the door again. It was cute.

Thomas was a little heavy so we gave Jack breaks for the longer walking periods. He was such a good little trick-or-treater.

Ella was a giraffe in the wild animals car behind Thomas. It was brilliant and totally adorable. We printed off a vintage circus car print and mounted it on foam board. Then we mounted it to the wagon with 3M velcro command hooks, those things are genius. It worked like a charm. She sat so perfectly the entire time. We put a few other stuffed animals in there with her and the wild animals circus car was a hit. I figured, if she can't really trick-or-treat for herself, she could at least score her brother some extra candy. And that she did.

Then we went home and passed out candy. Jack enjoyed helping. He'd run to the door, "help! help!" There were at least 9 Elsa's this year. Frozen was a big hit.

A few more of the Halloween fun...

I did a good bit of work for Ella's costume too. The costume came with the horrible head piece that went around her face and snapped to the body suit. It was not cute and wouldn't do at all for my princess. So the day before, I rush ordered the cute little ears and antlers (?) and then made a glittery tutu with brown and gold tule. It was adorbs!

Jack at his first house...

Playing with the neighbor, Emma, before the big event...

Jack watching Hocus Pocus...he was mesmerized. I love that movie too.

It was such a great time but it over before we could blink. Like most things in life, you put in all this hard work for such a brief moment. When it was all over, I was a little disappointed that I didn't savor it more. I was in mommy mode, helping Jack up the stairs to front doors, reminding him to take one piece, making sure Ella was a happy girl...and then, before I knew it, we had made it around the block and we were back home. Just like that. His first trick or treat, her first Halloween. Wow. I was so thankful Cliff and Sherry could join us! They were such a help with the babies, the other trick or treaters, and took lots and lots of pictures! Hope everyone had a safe and special Halloween!
